Training for Behavioral Health Advocates
Eric Gilbertson Advocacy Institute
Every year the Arizona Foundation for Behavioral Health sponsors a training series for recipients and family members, community advocates or service providers about the nature, function and responsibilities of various state agencies in the public behavioral health system. Selected participants learn about state agencies that provide or fund services over six sessions held in the fall. In addition, trainees learn about state and federal legislative processes and budgets, the role of media in forming public opinion, coalition building, and other important factors that will enable individuals to advocate on their own or family member's behalf. Participants will be better prepared to successfully add their voices to affect changes and improvements in the public behavioral health system in Arizona.
