Arizona Legislature Adjourns, Friday, June 27th
After many long and difficult days the Arizona Legislature adjourned.  The
budget was finally passed addressing the $2 billion deficit the state faced.  A
broad brush description is attached for your review.  As details about the lump
sum reductions by agencies becomes known that too will be posted.  If the
state's revenue picture does not improve, there is anticipation that a special
session will be held in the fall to address any shortfalls at that time.  Let's hope
the economy begins to improve and further reductions will not be necessary.
A update on the final passage of bills can be found under the "Capitol Info" tab
to the left.

The budget includes many of the items in the Governor’s original proposal
from January:
$590 M in borrowing for school construction
$330 M in K-12 rollover
$85 M from the Rainy Day Fund
$106 M transfer from Highway User Revenue Fund for the Highway Patrol

Additionally: $360 M in agency budget reductions & $340 M in fund sweeps
$1 billion in borrowing for Arizona universities, using revenues from the
lottery, which will be allowed to expand marketing and enticements to players
Revenue from photo-enforcement cameras for speeding violators-system has
to be installed and paid for before the revenue can go to the general fund
